If you haven’t heard of Millvale you aren’t alone.  Less than a mile off the I-75 Hopple Street Exit, right off Beekman Rd you will find a Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority Project and directly in the middle is a school- that’s us!

Taylor is 100% free and reduced lunch which means the district has said the poverty level here is so high, we don’t have to file the paper work for our students to receive free lunch.  About 15-20% of our population is homeless and we receive Title 1 funding.

The school serves an impoverished population.  Year after year, there is a pressing need not only for things like school supplies, books, computers and field trips, but also more basic items such as; shoes, coats, food etc. (the list is endless).  Virtually daily, teachers and staff use their own money to buy whatever is necessary to help their students learn in a positive, safe environment.  Most of our students have a very challenging home life.  School is their haven.  The staff at Taylor Academy goes well beyond professional requirements to help their kids.

With the continuing funding cuts to education we decided to look for alternative funding sources in order to serve the school needs.  The Soaring Hawks Foundation is one way to establish a funding pool that we can use to purchase services and supplies to improve our school and our students’ quality of life.

Individuals can get involved at any level.  There is something for anyone looking to make a difference.  The time commitment of one hour a week, is reasonably small but the potential benefits are enormous.
